"Off with Her Head" Alice in Wonderland Figurine

The inspiration for this Alice in Wonderland figurine is the combination of three given prompts, "Alice in Wonderland", "Pearl" (the A24 movie), and "Blood and Guts." I sculpted this project in ZBrush, used Chitubox as a slicer, and 3D printed it with an Elegoo Mars 3. I painted the model with watered-down acrylic paint, watercolor pencils, and soft chalk pastels.

Programs:

Painting

I painted the model in individual pieces using watered-down acrylic paint for a smoother finish. To add some shading as well as eyeshadow and blue to the characters I used soft pastels. I coated the model in matte varnish with gloss varnish on select parts such as the eyes and lips and then glued the pieces together to finish it up.

3D Printing

I hollowed the models and added supports in Chitubox to print on an Elegoo Mars 3 3D printer. Unfortunately, I missed adding supports to Alice's bangs so I fixed the missing area with epoxy sculpt. Before painting, I sanded and fixed up the pieces to prime the surface.

Sculpt

I sculpted her in ZBrush initially in a neutral pose before posing her. I then split the model into 5 connecting pieces for printing.

Concept Art

To combine the prompts "Alice in Wonderland", "Pearl" (the A24 movie), and "Blood and Guts" I decided to play with the "off with her head" line from the Queen of Hearts in Alice in Wonderland but add the twist of Alice taking the queen's head. To figure out the design, I started by making a sheet of silhouettes and drew quick thumbnails over them with different ideas for Alice. After looking over them, I took elements I liked and combined them into an initial sketch before creating orthographic views to use as reference for modeling.
